How do we make the best ai happen to us?
Many of the leading artificial intelligence researchers think that in a few years, artificial intelligence can not only finish part of our work, also can do all our work, change the life on the earth forever.
The reason many people think this is science fiction is that we traditionally think of intelligence as something mysterious that can only exist in organisms, especially humans. But this chauvinism is unscientific.
From me as a physicist, and the point of view of researchers of artificial intelligence, intelligent only basic particles move and some information processing, not the laws of physics say we can’t build more intelligent than us in many ways. This suggests that we have only seen intelligence on the tip of an iceberg and have the amazing potential to unleash the underlying nature of all intelligence and use it to help humans flourish – or flounder.
If we do the right thing, is huge advantage: because we love all the civilization is the product of wisdom, so using artificial intelligence to enhance our own wisdom can solve the most difficult problem in the future. Why, for example, might it help us find a cure for cancer if our loved ones are using autonomous cars to prevent or succumb to the risk of dying from artificial intelligence? Why not improve productivity and prosperity through automation and use artificial intelligence to accelerate research and development of sustainable energy that we can afford?
As long as we win the competition between the growing technological power and the wisdom of our management, I am optimistic that we can develop through advanced artificial intelligence. But it needs to give up our outdated and faulty learning strategies. It helped us win the smart race with less powerful technology: we messed up the fire, invented the fire extinguisher, we messed up the car and invented the seatbelt. However, for nuclear weapons or super intelligent, more powerful technologies such as artificial intelligence, it is a bad strategy – even if it is a mistake is unacceptable, we need to finish my work first. The risk of artificial intelligence is not Luddite’s threat-it is a security project. When Apollo leaders considered anything that might go wrong, they were not alarmist. What they are doing leads to the success of the mission.
Therefore, what we can do to maintain the advantage of artificial intelligence in the future is the four steps widely supported by AI researchers:
1. Investment in artificial intelligence security research. How can we turn today’s suvs and available computers into a truly powerful AI system we truly believe in? Thank you for crashing your computer last time. It’s not controlling your self-driving car or your power grid. As ai systems approach the human level, can we allow them to learn, adopt and sustain our goals? Suppose you tell your future self-driving car to take you to the airport as soon as possible, catch up with vomit and helicopters, and complain that this is not what you want. If your car answers, “but that’s what you’re asking for,” you realize how hard it is for the machine to fully understand our goals – and it’s important. Through the national science foundation and other institutions, artificial intelligence security research should be a national priority. Equifax affects about half of americans, and this is just the latest reminder that all of our ai technology could be bad for us unless we start playing games.
2. Prohibition of autonomy for lethal weapons. We will begin to use artificial intelligence to control an arms race that is out of control, which could weaken a powerful nation, and today provide a cheap, convenient and anonymous killing machine for everyone, including terrorist groups. Let us use the international treaty on artificial intelligence arms control to discredit this, just as we despise and limit biological and chemical weapons and maintain the benefits of biology and chemistry.
3.Make sure that the wealth created by AI makes everyone better. Advances in artificial intelligence (ai) may produce a luxury leisure society or inflict unprecedented pain on most unemployment, depending on how ai generates taxes and shares of wealth. Many economists believe that automation is eroding the middle class and sharpening our country. Ensuring that future technology creates a better life for everyone is not only ethical, it is also essential to maintain a healthy democracy.
4.Think about the future we want. When a student walks into my office looking for career advice, I ask her where she will see herself in the future. If she answered “may be in the cancer ward” or prison, I will attack her plan strategy: I want to hear her imagine a very exciting future, and then we can discuss to achieve strategic goals, and to avoid the trap. Yet humanity itself has made the mistake of almost dystopian visions of our future, from the terminator to the hunger games. We don’t need to be paralyzed by paranoid depression, but we need to engage in conversations about where technology is headed. If we don’t know what we want, we’re less likely to get it.
